Awataha Marae is a community organization. It consists of the place and its peoples. It is very much a vibrant entity with a head a heart and a body. The Marae is the heart, steeped in a rich spiritual and cultural heritage. While Awataha is described as an "urban Marae" its roots are in both its people and its spiritual antecedents. While it is connected this way it will always have its heritage.
Most importantly, Awataha is connected to its spiritual head, Tane Whakapiripiri – he himself is the gatherer and connector of people – he tangata, he tangata, he tangata Our communities include Māori on the North Shore of Auckland New Zealand, Māori connected to Māori on the North Shore and people on the North Shore. Yet we seek to connect to all people and all communities.
